For the last quarter century, those words, and
the sacrifices they entail, have dominated the
life and activities of Lady Thalassa Tarkin of
Phelarion, the apparent widow of Grand Moff
Wilhuff Adrian Tarkin. The Rebels believe he
died at the Battle of Yavin while commanding
the Empire's first Death Star. Loyal Imperial
citizens were led to believe that he died in a
shuttle accident at the Tallaan Shipyards on or
about the same day the Death Star was
destroyed. Now that the war with the
Rebellion/New Republic is over, and the
Imperial Remnant stands on its own, only Lady
Tarkin and a handful of others know the truth.
The Imperial Remnant needs new
leadership--needs it badly as Grand Admiral
Gilad Pellaeon nears his eighty-fifth birthday. If
all goes well, the Remnant will have a new
Emperor soon, not by cloning, not by
commandeering the body of an innocent child,
and not by treacherous imitation, but by the
Empire's own legitimate advances in
technology. You see, an Imperial command
shuttle really did crash at the Tallaan Shipyards
contemporary with the Battle of Yavin. One
Imperial officer survived . . .
